Alicia Pierce

I’m Alicia and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Washington, DC and Virginia and a Board Approved Supervisor for counselors in supervision in Maryland and Virginia. Lastly, I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist Supervisor. That being said, I have 13+ years of experience providing psychotherapy services to adult and adolescent individuals as well as couples therapy and 17+ years working in the mental health field, including Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence and Crisis Response and private practice. I have a consistent calling to support individuals and relationships from a place of curiosity and understanding, even in acute or ruptured circumstances. I work toward a process of assessment and conceptualizing that guide me in creating treatment plans that lead clients to become more functional in life, reach their goals and come closer to healing. I have engaged in various intensive training that allow me to take clients on this path, including EMDR, DBT, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, DNMS, CBT, mindfulness approaches, IFS and Imago/Gottman Methods training .

My goal is to show up from a non judgemental, curious and empathic space; this means I understand that I am a big part of what creates safety in the space I share with supervisees so then they can approach me with cases and questions and explore these challenges. This co-regulation between me and the supervisee will allow the supervisee to learn much better than from a stressed response.

As a supervisor of color, addressing diversity and inclusion is always a priority in supervision or consultation, as well as bringing conscious awareness to multiculturalism and intersecting identities of privilege or marginalization. Supervisees often bring up issues or dynamics they are in with clients and I am comfortable upholding the importance of evaluating our ethics and exploring and finding a particular path to address a problem or question at hand. To address issues at hand, I prefer supervisees to be transparent without concern of judgment.

I am determined to teach therapists how to assess, conceptualize, diagnose, and create attainable and appropriate treatment plans focused on the issues that bring clients to therapy, not just addressing symptom by symptom; from this, I am determined to train and guide supervisees into learning application of specific therapeutic modalities. I understand that the transition from internship to clinical practice under supervision can be stressful, a process that involves change or discomfort. I will strive to work with you as a clinician, as a human, and as a learner along the way.  I want supervisees to reach a point where they feel comfortable and competent to practice independently while accepting that learning is a career-long process. I wholeheartedly believe that if we accept the stance on life long learning, we will be more grounded in the process with our clients as we take them on the journey toward healing.

Outside of practice or supervising, I adore my family, being a part of nature and the change of seasons, my husband’s cooking and finding peace in a world full of chaos. I identify as an entrepreneur with a compassionate heart.
